Welcome to the

Wabana Boys and Girls Club |
|
| The Wabana Boys and Girls Club has
been operating since 1955, offering the children and youth of
Bell Island a safe haven. A place where they can have fun, meet
their friends and join in programs that will develop their
skills and assist them in becoming productive members of
society. I am sure that many of you can remember the fun
and excitement of meeting your friends or playing different
sports programs at the Wabana Boys & Girls Club. JUNK FOOD FREE ZONE. This means that
our members are given only healthy snacks and our canteen supplies only
healthy snack items. Our members are very good and only bring
healthy snacks from home. We would like to
offer a sincere thank-you to the members and their parents for helping
us make sure our members eat healthy. Our club was the first to go Junk
Food Free and we continue to carry out this great service to our
members.
This year we continue to run a Wellness
Programs for our members.
Healthy Exercise and Healthy Snacks as well programs that
will keep our members active and alert. This is something that
we have incorporated into all our daily programs.
Our Get Busy program that incorporated a Cool Moves Program
teaching leadership and skills to our younger members. Preparing
them with the necessary skills to become mentors and role models
to younger club members. Many of these young men and women
now take part in our mentorship program at the club.
Tutoring is still a big part of our club, Monday - Friday
there is a Tutor available to assist members with their
homework. They will assist members with subjects they find
difficult.

Fridays is our Away Day and so far has been a
great hit with the members. We have been to Bowring Park
Pool, and will now be going to Pippy Park Mini Golf, Salmonier
Nature Park, Glo Bowling and other Cool Places. This is a
separate cost of $ 8.00 per child and bring your own lunch.
We will be having a couple of family day
activities. So please, when you hear the activities announced,
come and take part with your child/ward. Show them that
you too can have fun. |

Many thanks to Sears, Provincial Wellness, Canadian Tire
Foundation, National Foundation and United Way for assisting us
with grant funding to keep our existing programs running and the
ability to offer new programs. It is only through
foundations, business and the general public support that we can
continue to be a second home for many of the islands children
and youth. Sincere thanks: to the
family of the late Maria Dwyer, who so kindly allowed family,
friends and associates to donate to the Wabana Boys & Girls Club
in her memory. We received a little over
$ 3,000.00. With the assistance of her daughter Mrs. Ruth
Bennett, us used some of these donations to do Awards Day in
Memory of Mrs. Dwyer, who at one time had been President, Board
Member and True Friend of the the Wabana Boys & Girls Club. |
